The Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children is preparing to publish a report on alcohol availability, use, pricing and advertising, which is expected to assist Government in its plans to address the problem of alcohol misues.



Last week (November 17), the Committee met with representatives from the advertising industry and the advertising watchdog organisations to discuss the role of advertising in the marketing of alcohol and the effect this has on young people. Speaking afterwards, Committee Chairperson Jerry Buttimer TD said the meeting gave the Committee an opportunity to express its serious concerns about some of the advertising techniques and methods employed by the industry.
