81. Deputy Joe McHugh asked the Minister for Transport and the Marine the plans in place to introduce legislation to allow Gardaí to test drivers for drugs and to administer Gardaí to compulsory test for drugs and alcohol at the scene of an accident. [21243/07]
Minister for Transport and the Marine (Deputy Noel Dempsey): The legislative provisions in relation to the testing of drivers for alcohol at the scene of road traffic collisions are currently under review within my Department. At the same time my Department, in association with the Medical Bureau of Road Safety (MBRS) and the Road Safety Authority are keeping under review the development of technology internationally for roadside testing for drugs.
