136. Deputy Enda Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children her plans to ban a substance (details supplied) on sale in head shops; the full list of head shop products that she proposes to ban; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Minister for Health and Children (Deputy Mary Harney): The substances currently being sold in head shops which are due to be declared controlled substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 include:
• synthetic cannabinoids (SPICE products)
• benzylpiperazine (BZP) derivatives
• mephedrone, methylone and related cathinones
• GBL and 1,4 BD
• synthetic cannabinoids (SPICE products)
• benzylpiperazine (BZP) derivatives
• mephedrone, methylone and related cathinones
• GBL and 1,4 BD
The substance mentioned by the Deputy is not among the list of substances that are to be placed under control. However, the matter will be kept under review.
