The HSE is developing proposals in the Coombe Hospital, Dublin, for a significant new research project which aims to evaluate the prevalence of alcohol exposure in pregnancy. The study will examine patterns of behaviour, such as social drinking, binge drinking and sustained heavy drinking, and the factors that influence whether women drink alcohol before conception and during each trimester of pregnancy.
The project aims to follow a cohort of women who drink alcohol during pregnancy to evaluate the impact on the infant’s condition at birth and subsequent development.
