Ordering Help

By default, your results will be displayed according the date they were published with the most recent coming first. If you prefer you may change this to have the oldest displayed first, or by the type of publication (article, report etc.), or by alphabetical order according to the author’s name or the title of the publication.

General search help

Keep your searches short – just choose one or two key words (Our whole collection relates to drugs and alcohol so using these common terms will bring back a very large number of results).

Start by filling in just one or two fields. If you get too many results then click "refine search" and add more criteria.

If this is an important topic for you, you can save your search results so that when you log on to the website next time you can run it again quickly (click 'save search' on your results page).

Title:
This restricts search to titles of documents.

Subject:
This restricts search to subject terms we have added to documents.

All fields:
This searches the entire database (except for pdf content).

Author:
Use this field when looking for publications by specific authors / editors or corporate authors.

Abstract:
Use this field to find publications that contain specific words anywhere in their abstract. Enter just one or two key-words. Leave the 'all of' option to find publications with all of the words you are searching for, or choose the 'any of' option for a broader search.

Geographical area:
HRB National Drugs Library staff assign geographical subjects to publications (e.g. Ireland, Dublin, Cork, United Kingdom, Europe). Use this if you want publications related to a specific area.

Publisher:
Use this field when looking for publications by a specific publisher.

Year/Date Range:
Use this field if you are looking for publications published in a specific year or date range. Examples: '2011' (for just 2011) '1985-' (from 1985), '2001-05-17-2002-05-16' (between 17 May 2001 and 16 May 2002), '-11-1980' (before November 1980)

Type of Item:
Use this field to refine your search to particular types of publications. Tick the types that you want. If you want all types to appear in your results then leave this field blank.
