The purposes of having such data are manifold: - Accurate information on drug and alcohol-related deaths and deaths among substance users would enable us to make a judgement on whether broad policy objectives are being met or not. - It would inform Local Drugs Task Forces and Regional Drugs Task Forces on specific prevention, treatment and rehabilitation issues that would be of relevance at community level. - It would inform decision-making in terms of putting preventive measures in place to reduce premature drug and alcohol-related mortality. - It would enable us to determine the balance of harm to public health by drug type. %D 2005 %L ndc11888
