Latest European drug facts, figures and analysis released today. (24 Nov 2005)
The latest facts and figures on drug use across Europe, and by country, were released by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) today in their Annual Report 2005. The report includes information on the situation in Ireland provided by the Drug Misuse Research Division (DMRD) of the Health Research Board, which is the national focal point for the EMCDDA.
The aim of this briefing document is to highlight relevant findings in Ireland in the context of the European figures. Key topics addressed, and comparisons made, relate to population and treated
drug use figures (opiates, cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy), as well as complications and consequences (like polydrug use, blood-borne viruses, drug-related deaths). In addition, there is a special
focus on crime and prison, drug-related public nuisance, as well as options for substitution treatment. Read the
