Irish Penal Reform Trust. (1999) Irish Penal Reform Trust policy statement: drugs and the penal system. (Unpublished) Dublin: Irish Penal Reform Trust.

This policy document outlines the Irish Penal Reform Trust's (IPRT) policy on drugs in the penal system. It calls for drug treatment to be made available for all prisoners, the creation of drug-free environments within every prison and the creation of a therapeutic community for drug users in Mountjoy Prison. It also criticises the introduction of the mandatory 10-year sentence for those convicted of supplying drugs over £10,000 as it impedes the freedom of the judiciary to make decisions tailored to the individual circumstances in each case. The IPRT tentatively welcomes the provision of a drug court providing suitable resources accompany its introduction.
