The objective of this research project was to gather information from young people in relation to the prevalence of drug use in North Wexford, trends in drugs use in this area, attitudes to drug use and to determine young people's views on information on support available in North Wexford. Data were gathered by means of a questionnaire and focus groups. The study found that the majority of those young people who had used drugs (59% of sample) had used cigarettes or alcohol or both and no other drug. The report recommends that the Community Based Drugs Initiative adopt a harm reduction approach to deal with the issue of drug use in North Wexford. The report also recommends the establishment of a drugs education programme in cooperation with schools and youth facilities throughout the area.
