The Traveller Health Unit in the Community Healthcare Organisation Area 2 was established as the HSE West Traveller Health Unit in 1996 to address the issues of access to and uptake of health services by members of the Traveller community with a view to addressing their exceptional poor health status and the health inequalities experienced by them. The work of the Traveller Health Unit (THU) in the Community Healthcare Organisation Area 2 (THU CHO 2) is underpinned by the social determinants of health that are at the root of Traveller health inequalities.
