P.3 Our drug of choice, alcohol, last year through misuse caused almost 300 deaths and 8,000 admissions to hospital. Alcohol is now over 60% more affordable than it was 30 years ago. Given the relationship between pricing and consumption I believe the evidence supports the introduction of minimum unit pricing as a desirable public health intervention.
