The Minister for Justice will today announce details of legislation aimed at putting headshops out of business. The shops specialise in legal alternatives to outlawed substances such as cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy.

The sale or supply of substances that are not prescribed under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1997, but which have psychoactive properties or mimic the effect of illegal drugs, will be outlawed because of ongoing health risks associated with their use.
