In a recent written answer to a Parliamentary Question, Pat Carey TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for the Drugs Strategy, outlined the number, size and scale of the ten regional drugs task forces (RDTFs) (see Table 1).1 Minister Carey explained that expenditure by the RDTFs is building up. In 2007 alone it was expected to exceed €7 million, and when the RDTFs are fully operational, expenditure will be in the region of €14 million per annum. The RDTFs may also seek capital funding under the Premises Initiative and approximately €0.8 million was allocated for this in 2007.
In a separate written answer on the 12 local drugs task forces (LDTFs) in Dublin (excluding Bray and Cork), Minister Carey reported their current and capital expenditures, and allocations under the Young People’s Facilities and Services Fund, for 2005 and 2006 (see Table 2).(Brigid Pike)
