There was a reduction in the prevalence of personal crime experienced by those aged 18 years and over in 2006 when compared with 2003. In 2006, there were an estimated 150,700 persons (4.6%) who experienced theft with violence, theft or physical assault (excluding domestic and sexual assaults). Both the 2003 and 2006 rates were, however, approximately double the 2.4% prevalence rates in 1998 (the only other year for which directly comparable figures are available). See table 1a. In 2006, 11.3% of all households were affected by property crime. This compares with 11.7% and 12.1% in 2003 and 1998 respectively. Offences included as property crimes are burglary, theft of and from vehicles, theft of bicycles and vandalism
